this weekend in paradise

... Project Spectrum Pink Flower Basket Shawl, sans edging and blocking. Knocking on wood, crossing my fingers, clicking my heels three times and throwing a pinch of salt over my shoulder- there may be an FO post later this week!... More Project Spectrum pink- in the form of our State flower! Technically, the yellow variety is the "official" bud, but these pink ones are my fave.... Long overdue, but during our 12-hour reprieve yesterday from the month-long rain, I snapped these photos of my "backyard" from high atop scenic Tantalus. This spot at Pu'u Ualaka'a holds a special place in my heart as it's where Mr. W and I exchanged our marriage vows, overlooking the island of O'ahu. Infamous Diamond Head . The beautiful Ko'olau Mountains. Punchbowl Crater of Hawaii Five-O fame. The sky and water weren't blue yesterday, but I'm hoping to rectify that soon. With any luck (and a dose of Blogger Metamucil!), I'd like to make "This Weekend in Paradise" a monthly feature to showcase the beauty that is Hawai'i.

... My ongoing Project Spectrum "WIP's!"

Stinky in Pinky and Bossy in Bull-Headed Red. And who could resist hanging out in our fave red monster's room at Bishop Museum? Project Spectrum pink and red abound in Elmo's World- just ask Dorothy!

OMG could I really be FIRST :)

Now THAT'S a backyard Chris!! Thanks for sharing your beautiful home, I look forward to monthly installments...btw, do Bossy and Stinky need a cute, fluffy, knitting au pair? :)

Your FBS looks like a beautiful pink cloud!

Whew! I'm not sure any part of Hawaii could photograph badly if it tried. It's a very photogenic state!

The Flower Basket Shawl looks very delicate and airy. I can't wait to see the final photos. (And yes, I'd be crossing my fingers and clicking my heels too!)

Woo hoo ... a pink flower basket shawl ... gorgeous! Debi was right, it looks like a pink cloud! What yarn are you using?
I am working on the Sampler Stole this weekend ... got almost 3 pattern repeat for the central panel done! Love it ... the knitting is not boring at all ... though the Alpaca Cloud is a bit difficult to work with! Too slippery ... to soft!

Your soft pink fbs is going to look great. What yarn are you using? We have hibiscus here too, and they're mostly pink.

Chris,

Honestly - I was looking at the last two pics of the progeny and thinking, "Omigod - what kind of wallpaper is that?!?!" in a scared, hushed voice. Ahh... Elmo... I get it now :)

The flower basket shawl is such a dainty shade of pink - I can't wait to see it blocked out.

Thank you for posting the Hawaii pics and the beautiful pink hibiscus -- I need a dose of some island sun in gray Germany!

And thank you again for stopping by ... and "understanding." I got a huge confident boost from your comments!

Oh it's so beautiful there. I was thinking of you last night when the weather was talking about the 110" of rain you've gotten there.

I have to say I love the kiddo pictures even better! Are they not the cutest munchkins ever??

I love your pictures, isn't it just nice that you live in this paradise? Btw, my honeymoon was in Kauai and the big island.

Your shawl is really pretty and feminine! You sure are whipping that one out! Great pictures...your little WIP are so adorable. I was trying to remember what color the state flower was, I really think it should be the red one.

Your pink shawl is an inspiration to me as I work on my pink kiri :) Thanks for the advice on needle size; I'll also try to find some Inox needles.

The pictures are so gorgeous! I can't wait to see more. :) Your pink shawl is so, so pretty. I have been thinking about the possibility of doing a similar project as a warmup before The Sampler Stole. B and S look so cute in their red and pink, and that Elmo room looks like big fun. John would love it! Hope you had a great weekend, Chris! :)

Such beautiful pictures! I love the color of your Flower Basket. So springy. Hibiscus are such a pretty flower. Kevin and I had one that I recently killed. (Oops.) I could be wrong, but I think Bossy kinda likes having his picture taken.

Oh I love how your shawl looks! Whoa you are far! How did that happen? I better get knitting.
Those are amazing pictures-I'm so jealous. Can I move in with you?
You have two of the cutest little kids. To be honest with you, I can't stand Dorothy's voice but the kids love it. Go figure. What fun your kids have with you. They sure are lucky to have such a wonderfully talented mom. :)

Your Flower Basket shawl is beautiful! I love the fluffy pinkness of it.
The kiddos are too cute! And I love how you are dressing them for Project Spectrum.
Look how green your backyard is. We have lots of brown here. I'd much rather look at yours!

You've really gotten into lace knitting and in a big way, huh? I like the FBS a lot. I'm hoping to make one maybe this summer. I think it's just a gorgeous pattern. It's nice to know someone else is pretty busy too. I enjoyed all of the Hawaii pictures too.

Your pics are great! FKD mentioned your blog on her scavenger hunt, and I came over to take a peek. You have a really fun blog. Happy knitting!

how cute your kids are! they're getting so big so fast! and that is a gorgeous shawl you're working on. i believe my attention span gets shorter and shorter these days. one of the kiri "shawls" i was working on is now more like a neck kerchief. i made a lot of mistakes in that one anyway...
but wow! that ribby cardi is fantastic! rock that cardi, girl! i would be intimidated by zipper installations. and you're so daring with that natural color. i'm so prone to spilling stuff on myself...there are pen marks on my jacket sleeves that i never even knew i made, food stains...aiya.
take care, chris! eventually, i'll make it back to an aloha knitters meeting...i miss knitting with you gals... :(

Yur FBS looks wonderful! I thought the edging went really fast after all the agony of the shawl itself, LOL. Can't wait to see the FO!

The little ones are so cute!!

You live in such a beautiful place! I've never been anywhere - not even a lot of travel in my own country! Live in NS, been to NB, PEI (when I was like 3), and QC. Just made it across the border to the US last July - for all of two hours! Never been on a plane. Sad, huh? Although this summer I am getting the entire family passports, and next year let the travelling begin! One of my co-workers was to California for three weeks last fall, and now at the end of May he's going to England to see his cousin before she moves back to Canada! He doesn't have kids, though... That makes a big difference in the finances...

Mahalo nui for the photos of what used to be my backyard too. I especially loved the one of Mânoa Valley, which is where I was raised. When I was born, we lived in a tiny house on Tantalus.

Your shawl is fabulous! I am in awe.
